Xu GuoYuan is a vocational Chinese painter. With enlightenment of Mr. Huang Xite in his boyhood, he is fond of art collections and the splendid Chinese culture. He graduated from Chinese painting department, the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts and was directed by many famous professional teacher. In 1989, Xu Guoyuan converted to Buddhism wiht dharma name "Miao Ding" and self-name "DaoChangShan Ren"

1992年离职创办白鹭画廊、又创湖州琴社、湖州琴筝 业余艺术学校、存古斋、绞胎器研究室。对红山文化玉器，良渚文化玉器，商代玉器，良渚陶、石、骨器及唐三彩、绞胎器颇有研究。是江南收藏家、鉴赏家之一。
近年定居杭州,筹备史前文化研究丛书编委会。
国元生性耿直，坦荡磊落，不趋时尚,墨田静耕。时人赞为不大多见的中国画家。
